Alex Poythress picks up a UK offer

alex-poythress1

According to the Recruit Scoop, Kentucky has extended a scholarship offer to 2012 recruit Alex Poythress of Clarksville, Tennessee. Poythress is a 6’8″ forward who Tyler Thompson introduced you to last week, and according to Rivals also holds offers from a host of other top schools, including UConn, Louisville, Florida and several others. He’s ranked as a four-star and the 13th-best at his position and #38 overall by Rivals, but the #4 small forward and a five-star by Scout. He’s also apparently the owner of a shiny new offer from UK. Here he is dunking on people:

First… lemme say that this is pretty dang close to “homegrown.” Is he worth it?

The good thing about all these offers is that if we do lose 7 players to the draft after #8 we may actual fill all 7 with some quality guys; athletic, tall, versatile, some possible one and done others 3-4 year program builders with room to grow and improve all top 25.

Andre Drummond – There is talk of him playing prep school next year then going to the draft or enrolling at
    UConn in the fall.
Shabazz Muhammad – The only true must get IMHO in the class of 2012. Shooting Guards dont usually go
#1 over all in the draft but if any one can get him there its Cal and UK. Not UCLA.
Mitch McGary – Tyler Hansbrough clone with great size not a shot blocker but if you put enough athletes
he will be fine. Doesnt really have a leader so thats a good thing for the Cats.
DaJuan Coleman – The word is that its between UK and Cuse. When has Cuse had an ALL American big man?
Derek Coleman in 1990. If this kid wants to be big time this is a no brainer, UK.
Brandon Ashley – California kid played well at the Peach Jam and got some reassurance from Cal. Hard to
tell where he will end up but the Cats are in the running.
Archie Goodwin – Could you imagine having Shabazz on one wing and Goodwin on the other? Remember the Air
Pair Mercer and Derek Anderson in 1997? Picture that.
Kaleb Tarczewski – You cant coach size and this young man is a true 7 footer. Good hands, decent feet,
and couchable. Word is he is very “interested” in UK.
Ricardo Ledo – Great talent questionable attitude and academics. If any coach can get him to buy in its
    Cal.
Robert Carter – Rumors emerged early in the week about a possible commitment from Mr Carter, nothing to
    report yet.
Alex Poythress – The most recent player in the 2012 class to get an offer has outstanding size and
athletic ability. Great teams can out athlete you because they have players like this kid.
Perry Ellis – Combo forward with great motor could be the #2 priority in the class for UK behind Shabazz.

Devonta Pollard – Humble soft spoken lefty forward with great athletic ability. Suffered an injury recently so his recruitment has been quiet lately.
T.J. Warren – Outstanding scorer with great size who can beat you off the bounce and seeks out contact at
at the rim. Warren would fit in well in the dribble drive offence.Plays HS with Mitch McGary

    Good rundown #2!

  4. cattttttttttttttttt

Im so happy we gave him an offer, he would be great to be apart of the Big Blue family

  5. Spread The Love

Freudian slip? “… apart of the UK family?” As in, “he shouldn’t be one of us?”

    ?

If the money is right, he will be4 a Cayut.

So, how many UK offers (Rivals/Scout list 12: Muhammad, Ledo, McGary, Pollard, Bennett, Goodwin, Coleman, Ashley, Warren, Ellis, Rose, Drummond; and now add one: Poythress) can be extended, before … (you know)?

7 – Anybody that comes to play for Cal will be a millionaire in the NBA within a couple of years, so they are more likely to pay to play for UK than vice-versa. Before Cal worked with them, who would have predicted Harrellson and Liggins would be drafted, and that Bledsoe, Cousins, and Orton would be first round draft picks after one year?
